Hot Water Springs
Located five miles north-west of Trincomalee, seven natural hot springs are found and locals believe it to have healing power. Going back to Hindu Mahabharata, a folklore about Ravana and his mother who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. When Ravana’s mother was very sick, he wanted to remove the infamous Koneswarm Shiva temple. This made Lord Shiva drop his sword and stopped Ravana, and when this news was heard by Ravana’s mother, she was in great sorrow and passed away due to her son’s actions. When Ravan found the lifeless mother, he struck the earth several points with his sword, which was the birth of these hot water fountains.
